Apparently here in MT we are having the "cold snap". Since arriving here we have had a period, once each winter, where the temperature gets really, really cold. It is -8°F here in Missoula right now, low was -10°F at 6am (With wind chill it is -17°F). The high today is supposed to be 3°F!!! (Of course Missoula is the "Banana Belt" of Montana- the low in Helena overnight was -22°F, Butte was -25°F- both are less than 100 miles from Missoula) This is our 3rd year in Montana, and so far we had a cold period that lasted a week or two each winter (in 2007/8 it was in January, 2008/9 it was right in the middle of December). The rest of the winter is pretty mild, we might get in the teens at night, but daytime highs are in the 30s and 40s. Which is nice, it means all the snow never becomes "all that damn snow!" as it falls, we get 4 or 5 inches, then it melts off over the next 3 days (except last year we had about 12" of snow just before the cold snap set in, so for one thing it was too cold for the de-icer to work on the roads. Weeeeeee!). No snow right now, allegedly we will get some this weekend, but temperatures will be 20-30° higher. The hardest thing is dealing with the cold car. It doesn't warm up until I have driven 5 miles or so. Do you realize how small Missoula is? Tags: montana Current Location: 59803 Current Mood: cold
